Accessibility
Accessibility at RYDO
RYDO is for everyone in Chennai and Tamil Nadu, including people with disabilities. This page says plainly what we do today, where we fall short, and how to tell us what you need. We have not yet completed a formal accessibility audit, so nothing here is a claim of conformance with any standard.
What works on this website
- Every page uses real headings, landmarks and labelled navigation, so screen readers can move around it.
- Links, buttons and form fields can be used with a keyboard alone, and the focused item always shows a clear outline.
- Text resizes with your browser’s zoom and text-size settings, and layouts reflow on small screens.
- Light and dark colour themes follow your device setting, and you can switch them on the home page.
- Animations are switched off if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions.
What helps in the RYDO apps
- You see the fare before you book. There is nothing to negotiate at pickup.
- The rider app shows your captain’s name, vehicle and number plate, so you can check the right vehicle has arrived.
- Trips start with a 4-digit OTP you read out, so you do not need to hand over a phone or show a screen.
- You can pay in cash or by UPI.
- Both the rider and captain apps are available in English and Tamil.
- The rider app has an in-app SOS button and lets you save emergency contacts. In an emergency you can also call 112.
- If getting somewhere is not practical, you can send items by parcel delivery instead.
Where we fall short today
- We do not currently offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles or vehicles with a ramp or lift. RYDO offers bikes, autos and cabs, and we cannot guarantee that a captain’s vehicle will suit a particular wheelchair, walker or other mobility aid.
- The apps have not been tested with screen readers such as TalkBack or VoiceOver. Some controls, and most of the map, may not be described properly.
- Trip updates are shown as text and notifications. We have not yet added alternatives designed for deaf or hard-of-hearing riders and captains, or for people who cannot speak on a call.
- Sign-in uses a one-time code sent by SMS to your phone number. This can be a barrier for some people.
- The apps have not been checked against contrast and text-size guidelines.
What we plan to do
These are intentions, not promises with dates. We will update this page as they happen.
- Test both apps with screen readers and larger text sizes, and fix what we find.
- Label every control and describe key screens, including the live trip screen.
- Look at ways to offer accessible-vehicle options, which depend on captains who have suitable vehicles.
- Publish a named contact for accessibility requests.
Respectful service from captains
The Captain/Driver Agreement requires captains to avoid harassment and discrimination, and RYDO can restrict a captain’s access after serious complaints. If a captain refuses you, treats you badly or is unsafe because of your disability, report it as soon as you can. Please include the trip reference.
If you want to drive with RYDO
Captains need a valid licence, vehicle documents and identity verification, which the law and our terms require. If something in pre-registration or document upload is hard for you to complete, tell us what would help. We will look at what we can change in the process.
Tell us what you need, or report a barrier
Use in-app support or email support@rydoind.in. Tell us what went wrong or what you need. Include the device and any assistive technology you use, the page or screen, and your trip or order reference if there is one. We handle accessibility complaints under our Grievance Redressal Policy, and our Accessibility & Non-Discrimination Policy sets out the commitments behind this page.
